Welcome to my continuing storytelling series, where I introduce various characters from my stationery series.
For a set of new Valentine’s Day notecards, I thought it would be more fun and interesting to do illustrations inspired by a nature theme instead of a graphic or traditional theme. I am excited to show you my new Valentine’s Day notecards today, which I drew using my new digital drawing tablet, after a few practice pencil sketches in my notebook.
Bleeding Hearts, from a collection of flower illustrations I’m starting to work on for release in 2013:
Bleeding hearts are a garden plant with arching sprays of pendent pink and white flowers in heart shapes. They thrive in cool, moist conditions among ferns and hostas. They are so delicate and beautiful in real life, so it was fun to try to capture that daintiness in my drawing practice and digital illustrations.
Love Birds Notecards, from a collection of bird illustrations I’m starting to work on for release in 2013:
Love birds are a small species of parrot, very social and affectionate. They get their name from the long periods of time they sit together. Aw, how sweet!
Notecards come in sets of 8, and are blank inside so you can personalize your greeting. They measure 5-1/4″ wide x 4-1/4″ tall. Both sets of notecards can be found in the Notecards section of my shop.
Stay tuned for more storytelling series from my field guide illustrations. Thanks for stopping by.

the love birds are sooo cute:)
These are both so wonderfully appropriate for Valentine’s Day. I especially love the bleeding hearts drawing. Good job!
Both are wonderful additions to your collections and it looks like you’re having lots of fun with your new tablet.
Thanks so much Shell! They were fun to work on, especially while learning how to draw with my new tablet. I really love that thing!
Wow, Terri, I am so impressed at how your skills are developing. Those love birds are so beautiful!! While they are clearly an illustration, they still have a living, breathing quality to them. Really, really wonderful.
Thanks so much Amy! They were really fun illustrations to work on, and I do have to admit I love how they turned out.
Aww so lovely
I love your ideas! I have a friend who made a bleeding hearts quilt that is gorgeous. Your drawing reminds me of it!
Wonderful! The flowers make me want Spring to come soon!
What a great idea! They can be used any time of the year, but work great for Valentine’s day! I love the bleeding hearts, they are one of my favorite flowers!
